Dominic, Nicholas, and Daniel Maloney grew up in Trinidad and Tobago, where their grandparents grew cacao trees. When the brothers landed in New York, they brought that deep Caribbean connection with them. When they decided to start making their own chocolate and open the Bronx's first ever bean-to-bar factory, they knew it was going to be a tough road but they did it anyway.  Sol Cacao was born in 2015. One of the only 100% Black-owned chocolate factories in America, they are rewriting what craft chocolate looks like and where it comes from. They survived the depths of COVID challenges and were saved by the groundswell of support for black businesses after the incident involving George Floyd. To great a great appreciation for how close they came to closing, read this great article in the New York Times "How One Small Business Found Sweet Success During the Pandemic".  They made it - when we ordered bars from them at the end of 2025, they'd been running for 10 years and getting stronger and stronger.Life is complicated enough, so they keep things simple where they can - They make only 4 single-origin bars, each using special beans from family farms from a different corner of the cacao world (Colombia, Peru, Ecuador & Madagascar).
