What began as a simple coffee break during a 2013 summer holiday in Sweden's picturesque Österlen region transformed into something extraordinary. When Ulrika and Fredrik Bergenkrans discovered the charming old village school in Skåne-Tranås, built in 1893, they had a dream of turning it into a chocolate factory. Three months later, the couple founded Svenska Kakao and became one of only a handful of chocolate makers across the entire Nordic region crafting chocolate directly from cocoa beans.
Ulrika and Fredrik don't just source cocoa – they embark on worldwide journeys to personally select exceptional beans from carefully chosen producers. Every partnership is built on principles of outstanding quality, sustainability, transparency, fair pricing, and most importantly, extraordinary taste. This meticulous approach is what sets Svenska Kakao apart. Working with their small team of skilled chocolatiers in their converted village school, everything is crafted from scratch in small batches, maintaining the artisanal integrity that has earned them prestigious international awards.
What started in a quaint Swedish village now graces the shelves of legendary department stores like Isetan in Tokyo, Lafayette in Paris, KaDeWe in Berlin and now the famous Bean Bar You subscription boxes!
